A teen section was designed with the input and suggestions from actual teenage patrons. The bright colors and inviting lounge furniture gives young adults a place to call heir own. The wood accents throughout the library have a classic feel; the perforated steel end panels provide texture to the steel cantilevered shelving. Aesthetics, design, and functionality were key issues when designing this renovated library. The separate and enclosed children’s area was designed to appeal to young minds with its animal theme. It was surrounded with large windows so there would be full visibility of its interior. The main section of the library included perforated end panels instead of wood. This not only saved the client money but also provided a light and airy look and feel to the library. The inclusion of computer stations and a teen center were integral to the full range of services provided at this library. This project was completed on time and now serves as a focal point in the community.
The Kent School, a private K-12 school located in Chestertown, Maryland, needed a way to make their library work for their diverse student body. Multiple conversations with Kent School lead Douron to design and blend the seating, tables, shelving and all other areas of the library with the custom designed Osprey logo (to match the school mascot). The shelving in the center of the room was put on casters, allowing flexibility for meetings and events. The utilization of Douron’s full spectrum of services, from planning to installation, allowed the entire library renovation project to achieve a cohesive final look.
